Fujairah International Airport Celebrates IndiGo’s Inaugural Flights to Mumbai and Kannur

Fujairah International Airport celebrated a major milestone on 15th May with the official launch of IndiGo Airlines' inaugural flights to Mumbai and Kannur, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing connectivity between Fujairah and key Indian cities. With two daily direct flights to both destinations, this collaboration strengthens travel links, boosts tourism, and promotes economic exchange between the UAE and India.

 

The arrival of the inaugural aircraft was honored with a ceremonial water salute, followed by a A formal welcome ceremony held at the VIP lounge. The event welcomed high-profile attendees, including H.E. Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, H.E. Mohamed A. Al Salami, Chairman of the Fujairah Department of Civil Aviation, Capt. Esmaeil M. Al Boloushi, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport, and Mr. Ebraheim Alqallaf, Deputy General Manager of Fujairah International Airport , Mr. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, along with senior government and private sector officials.

 

In his keynote speech, H.E. Mohamed A. Al Salami underscored the broader vision behind this launch:

 

“This event marks not just the launch of a new route, but the opening of strategic avenues of cooperation and collaboration between our two great nations,” he stated.

 

Highlighting Fujairah’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and growing appeal as a destination, he emphasized that the new routes would serve as a gateway for the Indian community, enriching tourism and business interactions.

 

“IndiGo’s commitment to affordable and quality travel resonates deeply with the needs of our community,” he added. “This is more than a flight — it’s a bridge that will facilitate the movement of individuals, ideas, and dreams.”

 

He concluded by thanking all partners involved and expressed optimism about the expanding opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange that this partnership will unlock.

 

Capt. Esmaeil M. Al Boloushi, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport, also spoke on the occasion, celebrating the operational milestone:

 

“We are pleased to mark the launch of IndiGo’s first flights to Mumbai and Kannur — a significant step in enhancing direct connectivity between Fujairah and India,” he said.

 

He acknowledged IndiGo’s confidence in the airport’s readiness and extended gratitude to all stakeholders:

 

“This milestone reflects IndiGo’s confidence in our airport’s operational standards. We look forward to more destinations and continued collaboration.”

 

He also emphasized the broader benefits of the new routes, noting that travelers from Fujairah will now have convenient access to major Asian destinations through IndiGo’s expanding network, including Maldives, Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, Dhaka, Colombo, Seychelles, and Kathmandu.

 

To further enhance passenger convenience, Fujairah International Airport has introduced a free transportation service connecting all seven Emirates, making access to the airport more seamless for travelers across the UAE.
